While I was growing up in western Kentucky, our family often traveled to Evansville, Indiana. Sometimes we went
north of town on U.S. Highway 41 past the Whirlpool factory and the airport. In 2003, I was returning from a meeting of oil
producers in southern Indiana when I noticed the sign for an air show at the airport. I wasn't in a hurry, so I stopped.
I learned that during WWII the Whirlpool factory was the Republic facility where P-47s were made. On the tarmac were several
P-47s that had flown in for the show.

I didn't have access to the flight line and these were the best my zoom lens would do from behind the barrier, except
for a few. I obtained the assistance of one of the ground crew and gave him my camera with the request
he take some pictures. I should have been specific and at the next opportunity will request pictures of nose artwork, the
cockpit and others. But, as they say, beggars can't be choosers and the picture of the 50 cal loadout is pretty impressive.
